Last big meeting before change

THE last annual general meeting of Avon and Somerset Police Authority will take place on June 20.

The body that looks after the constabulary's budget is being replaced in November by an elected Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC).

This year's AGM starts at 10am, at police headquarters in Portishead, and includes a presentation and question and answer session with the North Somerset district commander, Superintendent Julian Moss.

The meeting will also contain reports on activities and achievements of the police authority and outline plans for committee responsibilities and arrangements during the transition to a PCC. This will also be the last time the authority will elect its chairman, deputy and lead members.

Current chairman Dr Peter Heffer, pictured, said: "This will be one of our last formal meetings as we move to a new way of working that ensures governance continues and our practical preparations for the Police and Crime Commissioner are delivered.

"The AGM will start slightly later to give time for residents to hear from Superintendent Julian Moss. This format has proved very popular in our previous meetings and is an ideal opportunity for people to ask questions about policing in their area."

The meeting is open to the public. To secure a place, call 01275 816377 or email feedback@aspola.org.uk to confirm attendance. The full committee papers are available on-line at: www.aspola.org.uk/Documents.aspx.

People are also encouraged to use social media to take part in the meeting by "tweeting" questions to @ASPoliceAuth, with hash tag #YPYV.
