A PAIR of giraffes at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm have become parents for the first time.
Baby George arrived to mum Genevieve and dad Gerald after a 15-month pregnancy, the zoo farm announced yesterday.
Genevieve was in labour for two hours before giving birth, standing up, on Friday night.
Giraffe Keeper Emma Green said: "I'm thrilled to say that the happy family are doing very well. Little George seems very healthy and relaxed, and has been feeding well from mum Genny over the weekend.
"He has his mum's markings, and seems to have inherited her good looks too."
Mother and calf will now be allowed their own space for a few months while George grows stronger, separated by a fence from Gerald, who can still lean over to see and sniff his family each day.
Gerald, who stands 16ft tall, lived alone at the zoo farm for four years, with only a goat called Eddie and zebras Zebedee, Zara and Zelda for company, before 12ft Genevieve arrived from a zoo in Eastern Europe in 2010.
The birth and first steps of George were filmed by Noah's Ark staff.
