A PERSISTENT kerb-crawler has been given an anti-social behaviour order banning him from entering red light districts in Bristol for the next two years.
The 46-year-old man, from Easton, was arrested after he picked up a prostitute in Fishponds Road, Eastville, in May.
The man was caught on CCTV cameras loitering around a known red light area and then picking up a prostitute. Police quickly moved in and arrested him
As well as receiving a red light area ban, the man was fined more than £600 when he appeared in court.
Neighbourhood Inspector Chris Regan said: "We're really pleased about this Asbo as it means that if this man is seen in any of the city's the red light areas we have powers to arrest him or remove him from the area before he gets the chance to commit a crime.
"Anyone who is considering trying to buy sex from street prostitutes in the red light areas in Bristol should take note. We have a team of specialist officers monitoring hot-spot areas around the clock."
Anti-social behaviour co-ordinator Alex Quayle said: "The fact that this Asbo has been granted by the courts demonstrates how seriously they are taking this issue. Kerb crawling and street prostitution is very upsetting for the local community and the police and the courts are determined to use the full extent of the law to deter anyone who is helping keep the vice trade alive in these areas."
