A VISION of what planes will look like in 50 years' time has been unveiled by Airbus.
The aircraft builder is showcasing the future of flight as part of a major new exhibition in London, demonstrating the best of British manufacturing to coincide with the Olympics.
The Make it in Great Britain exhibition was officially opened at the Science Museum by business secretary Vince Cable yesterday.
Visitors will be able to see what Airbus makes in the UK now, as well as take a look at the Airbus Concept Plane – an engineer's dream of what future aircraft may look like in 2050.
Much of the firm's design and development work is carried out at its factory in Filton.
Airbus boss Tom Williams said: "Many thousands of visitors will be arriving at London airports in the coming days and weeks, many of them flying on an Airbus aircraft – but how many will realise that the plane's wings are made in the UK?
"Our exhibit rightly celebrates the UK's achievements in making key components for some of the most popular and advanced aircraft in the world, but also looks at how air travel could evolve in the coming decades."
