Owners fear for lives of their stolen skinny pigs

THE owners of two newborn "skinny pigs" fear they will die unless the furless babies are located very soon.

Mike and Denise Hele of Keynsham, who breed and show guinea pigs, had the two skinny pigs stolen at some point between 5.30pm on Sunday and 5.30pm on Monday.

The couple believe whoever took the two-week-old babies – which had not been named – must have known what they were doing.

Mr Hele, 44, said: "We have more than 100 guinea pigs split between our two sheds but we had two skinny pigs – which are far more expensive – as part of a litter of four.

"We think it has to be someone who is on our Facebook page because there are lots of guinea pigs but they clearly targeted these two. Because of the nature of what they are we strongly suspect it is someone who knows what they are doing.

"They also had to get over a 6ft chain wire fence to get in and we are now looking at upping our security.

"Because of their age they need to be with their mum otherwise they will die. However because I think this was someone who knows what they were doing they will probably try and get another sow to accept them.

"At the moment we are more concerned they are still alive than getting them back.

"Denise is very upset because she liked them and was going to keep them. She has had a lot of support from friends in the guinea pig fraternity."

Mrs Hele added: "We don't care who has them we just want them back safe with mum – they could leave them with a local vet."

The couple have reported the incident to police. Contact newsdesk on 0117 934 3342 if you can help.
